La organización no gubernamental (ONG) Open Doors, de su lado, advierte que la persecución y masacre de cristianos sigue aumentando en el mundo año tras año (en cuyo caso son 250 millones las vÃctimas potenciales). “El extremismo islámico fue la principal causa de persecución de los cristianos en 2011â€. Con base en sus propios registros, dicha ONG ha formulado lo que llama El ranking de la vergüenza, en el que lista a los 50 paÃses más crueles con los cristianos.

Seguramente, señala esa fuente, del top 10 pronto saldrÃa Corea del Norte, simple y sencillamente porque no dejará más cristianos que perseguir en su territorio.
En Egipto militares masacraron a cristianos manifestantes “para darles una lecciónâ€. Alentados por un profesor, compañeros de clase de un estudiante de 17 años por portar una cruz. Militares han asaltado algunos monasterios, amenazando a los monjes y rapiñando sus propiedades.
RI apunta que el paÃs que registra mayores abusos contra la libertad de religión -que incluyen secuestro, conversión forzada, encarcelamiento, destrucción de iglesias, tortura, violación y ejecución- aparece Arabia Saudita, “guardián de los lugares santos islámicos de la Meca y Medinaâ€, donde un musulmán declarado culpable de convertirse al cristianismo puede afrontar sentencia de muerte por apostasÃa. “Y cualquiera que conduce a un musulmán a Cristo afronta la cárcel, expulsión o ejecuciónâ€.

A principios de 2006 en la ciudad de Trabzon, junto al Mar negro, un adolescente de 16 años disparó mortalmente por la espalda contra un clérigo italiano, Andrea Santoro. Poco después, el asesino posaba con la bandera nacional turca en prisión para fotos de héroes junto a varios policÃas, que evidentemente simpatizan con su ataque.
